On the basis of structure, polymers are classified as :

  1. Linear polymers such as high density polythene (HDP), polyvinyl chloride, nylons, polyster, etc.
  2. Branched polymers such as low density polythene (LDP), amylopectin, glycogen, etc.
  3. Cross-linked polymers such as bakelite, melmac, (melamine-formaldehyde polymer), etc
On the basis of how they are formed they are either addition polymers, such as polythene, formed from monomers with multiple bonds, and condenstation polymers such as proteins, formed by the elimination of a small molecule between reactive groups.

Linear Polymers

These polymers are formed of long straight chains. Eg: HDP, Polyvinyl Chloride

Branched Chain Polymers

They are basically linear polymers with some branches. Eg: LDP, amylopectin

Cross Linked or Network Polymers

These polymers have may cross linking bonds that give rise to network like structure. These polymers contain Bi-Functional and tri-Functional monomers.

This question is extremely broad but simply polymers are constructed from monomers. The monomer units used, determine the structure/shape - simplified formula of a polymer. Taking the simplest example of all, ethylene can be polymerised to polyethylene. The structure could be simplified as shown below.

N (CH2=CH2 ) ----> ---[CH2-CH2-CH2CH2-CH2-CH2-]--N/3 this would show the structure was linear etc.

What are climate regions classified on the basis of?

Climate regions are classified based on factors such as temperature, precipitation, and vegetation patterns. These factors help define different climate zones like tropical, temperate, arid, and polar regions around the world. By analyzing these key elements, meteorologists can categorize different areas into specific climate regions.
