The following is for the 3.0L H6: Remove the "V" Belt. Drain the Radiator so that the coolant level is below the Upper Radiator Hose. Remove the Clamps, remove the Hose from the Radiator & rotate the Hose counterclockwise out of the way. Empty the Pump Reservoir. Remove the Pump Hose Fittings & disconnect the Electrical Plug. Remove the three 14 mm bolts holding the Pump Bracket & the 12 mm bolt holding the Generator. Remove Assembly & replace Pump. Installation is reverse. Refill the Pump Reservoir & the Radiator with the proper fluids & quantities.....
There is no Power Steering Filter on a 2002 Subaru Legacy/Outback.
I found no mention of a power steering filter in the owner's manual or in the service manual for Outback.
Same as any car with power steering. You can continue to steer the car but with increased effort.
