Once there lived a king who was just and placid. The king once ordered to make a arch in the main point of the city. The arch was made and he went to see it and to address the spectators , when he passed through the arch his crown fell down , and this made him angry and he ordered that the person responsible to this should be hanged ,one by one the name changed,i.e from the chief builders to the masons but in the end there was no one to be hanged but at last the king was the one who got hanged. Now,the kingdom needs a new king and as per there custom the one who pass the city gate would decide that who will become a the next king and an idiot passed and he replied "the melon" to their question and the melon became the king.

"The Tale of Melon City" is a humorous story by Vikram Seth about a mix-up caused by the faulty welcome arch of Melon City. The arch initially decapitates the mayor, leading to a series of events where the head is mistakenly put on the body of an elephant. The story satirizes the absurdity of bureaucracy and the consequences of unchecked power.
