Air ionizers are very successful at helping to eliminate harmful pathogens and odor causing bacteria from the air within your home. The benefits can be halted if your air ionizer is not cleaned and maintained regularly. Here is a simple cleaning guide to help restore the benefits to you and your family from your air ionizer unit. Step 1. Turn off the power to the air ionizer. Always unplug the unit from the electrical outlet as well. Step 2. The outside of the air ionizer unit should be cleaned first. You can clean the unit by wiping down the outside with a soft damp cloth. The front outlet grill can be cleaned using a soft brush or a brush attachment connected to your home vacuum. Never spray any type of household cleaner on the unit. Step 3. Using the small nubs that are located on each side of the unit, remove the rear air inlet grill. This grill can be cleaned in soapy, warm water using a soft cloth. No harsh chemicals, scrubbers or abrasives should ever be used on the grill as this will damage it. Step 4. The inside foam pre-filter needs to be removed and washed in warm soapy water using a mild detergent. Rinse this foam filter with clear water until all soap is rinsed out of it. This foam pre-filter should be allowed to drip dry. Allow the foam pre-filter for the air ionizer to completely dry before replacing it back into the air ionizer unit. Step 5. Main filters need to be cleaned. To remove these filters from your air ionizer unit you will need to grip both sides of the filter and pull them forward. Using the brush attachments connected to your vacuum, clean the filters by running the brush along the inlet and outlet side of the filter. Never force the brush between the pleats of the filter as this can damage them. Do not worry about any stained appearances that may be present on your filters as this will not effect the performance of your air ionizer unit. Step 6. The main filters of the air ionizer need to be replaced first when reassembling your unit. The filters should slide back into place where you removed them. You do not need to apply any type of force to the filters to get them into place. Step 7. Next you will need to replace the foam pre-filter. This goes back inside of the rear air inlet grill the same way that it was taken out. Place the grill on the back of the air ionizer unit. This grill should snap in place easily. Never force it back into place as this can cause damage to the grill.
