A major symbol in Twilight is the apple shown on the cover, which symbolizes Bella and Edward's relationship as a parallel to the biblical story of Adam and Eve. Edward is the temptation, and Bella gives in to him. (or, conversely:)

Twilight : the apple stands for the forbidden fruit- Bella is the fruit and her blood is forbidden to Edward.

Symbols in the other booksNew Moon : the wilting flower represents Bella's life- it is nothing without Edward

Eclipse : the ribbon stands for Bella- she is torn between Jacob and Edward

Breaking dawn : The red pawn represents Bella before her transformation- the weakest link and blood runs through her body(red). The white queen stands for Bella after she becomes a vampire; stronger and she no longer has blood (white).

Twilight sagas: another major symbol in the books and movies are the vampires and werewolves because that is all you see and read throughout the whole series.

because Jacob is a werewolf with his clan and Edward is the vampire with all the others and his family.

But also in the books like breaking dawn: they have the red and white pawns. The red pawns is for the living you know like the humans and werewolves meaning they have blood flowing through their body. As for the white pawns is for the dead you know the vampires which are supposed to have no blood since they are already dead.

There is no evident symbolism in Twilight. The closest thing to symbolism occurs on the cover, where the apple is supposed to represent the "forbidden fruit." However, one could argue that Bella's desire to be turned into a vampire is a metaphor for many teenager's desire to engage in sexual intercourse.

What letters represent the alleles?

Dominant AllelesUsually dominant alleles are represented as capital letters, whereas recessive alleles are represented by the lowercase letter. Presumably, the capital letter will help you remember which is which -- dominant correlates with capital. However, you can assign alleles whatever letter, number, or symbol you want - as long as it produces the same genotype and phenotype ratio. The symbols/letters that are created for Punnett Squares or another process are purely for organizational purposes. Think of it this way: if you have a heterozygous organism that mates with a homozygous organism of the same species, how will you find the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring? Well, you certainly aren't going to figure it out abstractly in your head. Assigning letters to dominant/recessive alleles is just to keep track of where the alleles are possibly going and the results. If you want the dominant allele to be "R" and the recessive allele to be "r", then that's perfectly acceptable. And if you want to represent the dominant allele with a Batman symbol and the recessive allele with a radioactive symbol, then that's fine too... as long as you know that the Batman symbol represents the dominant allele and the radioactive allele the recessive.
