My 1999 Chevy silverado was hard starting when warm (but not when cold) and studdered sometimes at idle. Changing the fuel fillter cured both problems.
Hard starting and stalling. When in doubt, replace the filter.
Hard to start, poor performance, and poor fuel mileage. Just replace the filter is you even suspect is is clogged.
It is possible. Replace the filter and see if the symptoms disappear.
A fuel filter that is clogged.
Hard to start, & stalling. The very same symptoms you get with a partially clogged fuel filter.
It will cause those and eventually will shut down your engine until the filter is changed or cleaned.
A clogged fuel filter can actually cause a fuel pump to fail. This is a much more expensive repair than a filter.
if the fuel FILTER is cloged then the car either wont start if it is real bad or before that it will be real slugish especially going up hills.
Short answer: no. A clogged fuel filter can cause difficulty starting, poor performance, and inability to maintain speed. These symptoms have very little to do with fuel economy. Change the air filter instead.
Yes if the filter is clogged with stuff
The fuel filter will get clogged and the engine will either run poorly or not at all. This can also cause the fuel pump to overheat and self destruct. Replace the fuel filter if you suspect it is clogged.
