Talipes is a condition that can affect one or both of a baby's feet from birth. In most cases, the front half of the foot turns inwards and downwards. This is called congenital talipes equinovarus (CTE). It is also known as club foot.

We do not know exactly what causes talipes but it can occasionally run in families. If one parent had talipes as a baby, there is a one in 30 chance that they will pass it on to their baby. This rises to a one in three chance if both parents had the condition when they were babies.
