The Water Cycle or hydological cycle is a fairly complicated process. Firstly, the sun evaporates sea water. This then condenses high up in the atmosphere. In the mountains, we get precipitation. This is either in the form of rain, snow, hail or sleet. We have something called interception where trees stop the water and drink it. Trees also sweat, in a process called evapotranspiration. We have overland flow, where water falls into rivers and streams. Run off is the term given to a river. There is also surface storage, in the form of lakes and marshes.
Some of the water gets back to the sea via infiltration. The water seeps underground. The topmost layer of water is called Throughflow and the bottommost layer is Ground water flow.
