Why will a conservative majority government be good for Canada?
It won't be, particularly. Majority government just means that the government can push its policy through largely unaltered and unopposed. Whether that policy is good or bad is entirely subjective. From a more general standpoint, majority government means that a portion of the population gets what they want, and the rest can be ignored. This is good if you happen to belong to the portion that is getting what it wants, but appears unjust to the rest of the population. Minority government means that the views of the population have to be better taken into account, or else the government can fall. Some will argue that having strong, focused policy, and a stable government that doesn't have to worry about being defeated at any time, is more important than what that policy actually is, and so majority government is preferable regardless of who forms it.

How do state and and local governments influence national policy making?
State and local governments serve as a research lab for national policy. If a state government creates a good policy, the federal government will often use that as a model for the national system. For example, the Federal Government used the Massachusetts model for health care to draft the new health care bill.

Why is the china's one child policy controversial?
Just like other subjects, the One-Child policy has pros and cons. The debate is whether or not the One-Child Policy is the best choice made by the Chinese government. It's so controversial because the two sides of whether it is good or bad can't defeat each other. I myself can't decide whether this policy is for the best or is it not the smartest choice. The side that states the One-Child Policy is good says that this is the most effective way to fix this problem as soon as possible. And I believe this is correct. I think the government would like to get this off their chest as soon as they can. The bad effect is that the public is not entirely content about this whole policy. The only similar policy to the One-Child Policy is a two-child policy applicable in some parts of India. And the government is also making a decision that should be made only by the parents.

By joining the UN the US adopted a long term policy of?
(Internationalism) By joining the U.N., the U.S. adopted a long-term policy of internationalism. Internationalism is a policy of cooperation with other countries for the good of the world. In earlier years, the U.S. had not been internationalist. The U.S. had usually been neutral, or isolationist, toward the affairs of European and Asian countries. But in December of 1945, after having fought one of the bloodiest wars in history, the U.S. wanted to start full-time cooperation with other nations. Americans hoped this policy of international cooperation would prevent a future world war.
