The state that historically disagreed with the U.S. over the U.S.-Canadian border is Maine. The dispute arose from the 1830s to the 1840s, primarily involving a region known as the Aroostook Valley. Tensions escalated into the Aroostook War, although it was largely a bloodless conflict.
