The US public already had it's morale dampened by the many protests and discouraging news from the press, the Fulbright hearings added to those effects. While the Fulbright hearings were from 1966 to 1971, the most influential were during 1971 with included John Kerry's testimony of the Vietnam War. He described the atrocities committed by the US Army, poor mental health of the veterans, and other reasons why the war should be concluded. As Kerry was a veteran with multiple honors, his opinion was taken seriously.
