Our greatest weakness is probably that most Naturists are reluctant to tell their friends or even family about their Naturism. Probably every member of CAMRA will wax lyrical about the joy of real ale to their friends at some point, but how many members of BN would do the same about Naturism?

The main reason for this is a perceived lack of understanding and acceptance of what Naturism is about. This perception is often reinforced by the way the media sometimes reports news about Naturism - looking for a scandal wherever they can find it, they sometimes bend the truth or at the very least cherry-pick a story to give a more controversial take on what we are about. Sometimes it is the choice of words used, other times they just can't resist the tired old puns we have heard so many times that they are no longer funny.

There is nothing illegal or morally wrong with Naturism and it is practised by people from all walks of life from bin men to barristers as well as ministers of various religions. Sadly there are some professions where past experience has shown that it is safer to keep quite about being a Naturist, but only because of the prejudice and lack of knowledge of those who could have an adverse effect on their career!

BN is doing what it can to break down the barriers, but we would be much stronger if all Naturists, not just those who are BN members, would tell everyone what a positive thing Naturism is in their lives.
