A man named Walter Frederick Morrison is the man who conceived the idea by throwing a metal cake pan on the beach with his wife in the early 1950's. It was originally called the Pluto Platter due to American's fascination with flying saucers and was sold at local fairs.
In 1957 he sold the rights to the company WHAM-O who then changed the name to "Frisbee" due to local children calling it Frisbie after a well known pie.
