Yes, the Puritans split from the Anglican Church and both are considered as Protestant denominations.
The Parliamentarians (Cromwell and his New Model Army) were Puritans They were in fact Calvinists and sought to build a Presbyterian Church out of the ruins of the Anglican Church! Unfortunately the ordinary people would not support their attempts and preferred the ancient Church!

Cromwell's supporters answer to his enemies calling him greedy was, "Cromwell gave a lot of his power to other Puritans and all Puritans wanted to end all wicked behaviour. So where is the greed in that?" Hope these helped this question was part of my history homework which was Oliver Cromwell- Hero or Villain? :)
