Pressure decreases. This is because atmospheric pressure is a measure of the weight of the atmosphere weighing down. If you are high in the atmosphere, much of the atmosphere is below you so the pressure from above will be very small.
Well atmospheric pressure changes with elevation and has to due with weight of air. The weight of air depends on it's constituents. Pollutants can change the weight but it's so small it is negligible.
Atmospheric pressure is caused by the weight of the air in the earths atmosphere that is above you. At sea level this pressure is said to be 1 bar or one atmosphere. Now, as you go up a mountain there is less air above you and thus the atmospheric pressure is less and the pressure you experience because of your altitude is said to be your local atmospheric pressure. However, the earths atmosphere is heated by the sun and moves in eddies to the poles where it is cooled and flows back to the equator - this is called the weather. When you have hot air above you it is less heavy than cold air so, as the atmosphere blows over you, the pressure of the air changes and you can work out if the air above you is hot or cold by comparing the measure you measure against your local atmospheric pressure.
Atmospheric pressure is greatest at the surface of the Earth because there is more air above pushing down. As you move higher in the atmosphere, there is less air above, resulting in lower atmospheric pressure. Gravity also plays a role in compressing the air molecules closer to the Earth's surface, increasing the pressure.

Simply put, atmospheric pressure is the force exerted on a measuring point by the weight of the air molecules on top of that point. Standard atmospheric pressure, measured at sea level at 59F or 15C, is used as a reference point and is equal to 29.92 inches of mercury or 1013 millibars of pressure.
Assuming you're talking about atmospheric pressure, it is caused by the earth's gravity and varies from place to place due to the forces of different forms of weather. Air pressure is all around you. Atmospheric pressure is the weight of earth's atmosphere. So the pressure is going to be related to gravity or to centrifugal force in one way or another.
