When I worked for a newspaper 30 years ago, in the society section occasionally the woman that wrote up the engagements, weddings, etc. used the term, "Benedict-elect." She thought that the term had something to do w/ traitor (b/c of Benedict Arnold,) as in "the young man is betraying 'that old gang of his' by getting married." Recently this question came up again, and a college teacher said she thinks the term is from the Latin, Benedict, which means to bless, and so the Benedict elect will be a blessing to his wife.
