The Indian Ocean. The volcanic island of Krakatoa lies between the Indonesian islands of Java, and Sumatra.
Java lies between Sumatra to the west and Bali to the east. Borneo lies to the north and Christmas Island is to the south. Java is surrounded by the Java Sea to the north, Sunda Strait to the west, the Indian Ocean to the south and Bali Strait and Madura Strait in the east.
The Torres Strait Islands lie between Cape York Peninsula and Papua New Guinea.
Cook Strait lies between the North and South Islands of New Zealand.
COOK STRAIT
This water passage is the Cook Strait, named after Captain James Cook, who circumnavigated New Zealand in 1769-1770.
It is between the islands of Java and Sumatra in the Sunda Strait
The Sunda Strait is located between the islands of Sumatra (to the relative north) and Java (to the relative south).
