After ten years of worsening tension with the crown.
The American colonists declared independence from England in 1776. This came after the American Revolution.
The colonists came to the decision to declare independence from Great Britain after the king of Britain and Parliament decided to impose high taxes on imported goods to the colonies. Without representation in Parliament the colonies had no way of voicing their disapproval. For this matter they decided to break away and for their own union.
The British tried to tax the colonists for all goods and services, and the colonists finally refused to pay and dumped all the English tea in the Boston Harbor, which came to be known as the Boston Tea Party. Next came the Revolutionary War, which the colonists won and signed the Declaration of Independence and won their independence from England.

Colonists left the poor, rocky soil of coastal New England for fertile Connecticut. Colonists came to find good farm land.
The Declaration of Independence (I assume that is what you are referring to) was written to declare our independence from England. Contrary to common belief, this document has no form of government. Our modern government is not directly affected by the Declaration at all. Basically, people were sick of England's grip on our nation. A group of men came together and officially declared independence by means of the Declaration of Independence.

The goals of the colonists who came to New Spain was to search for gold. If need be, they would steal the gold from the natives.
some people came looking for gold, some came for religious freedom, and some people came to work as indentured servants. (others who came were slaves or forced slaves.)
