Hartford, Connecticut, originally part of the Connecticut Colony, was founded in 1636 by settlers from Massachusetts. The Connecticut Colony was one of the original Thirteen Colonies in North America. Hartford later became the capital of Connecticut when the colony was officially established. In 1788, Connecticut ratified the U.S. Constitution and became one of the first states in the Union.
