Diaphragm is a sheet of internal skeletal muscle that extends across the bottom of the rib cage. The diaphragm separates the thoracic cavity (heart, lungs & ribs) from the abdominal cavity and performs an important function in respiration: as the diaphragm contracts, the volume of the thoracic cavity increases and air is drawn into the lungs.
The oesophagus passes through the thoracic cavity and into the abdominal part of the abdominopelvic cavity
The diaphragm, a large dome-shaped muscle, lies just under the lungs. Its upward dome-shape flattens, moving downward and expanding the thoracic cavity, during inspiration. The rib muscles simultaneously contract and pull the rib cage up and outward, further expanding the thoracic cavity. The increased volume of the thoracic cavity causes air to rush into the lungs. Exhalation occurs when the diaphragm and rib muscles relax, reducing the volume of the thoracic cavity. The expansion and contraction of the thoracic cavity occurs between 12 and 20 times each minute in adults.
Yes, the diaphragm lies between the thoracic and abdominal cavities and assists us to breathe.
You have two cavities related to diaphragm. But the shape of diaphragm is dome shaped and you can say that abdominal cavity is directly interior to diaphragm.
The primary muscle responsible for air entering the lungs is the diaphragm. The diaphragm is a dome-shaped muscle that lies just below your lungs, internally separating the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity. When you take in a deep breath, your diaphragm (along with other accessory muscles) contracts and flattens while your chest wall expands creating a negative pressure within the thoracic cavity. This allows air to move from an area of high pressure to an area of lower pressure during inhalation.
diaphragm is muscular part made up of involuntary smooth muscles.it is nothing but a thin rubber dome with a springy and flexible rim.any dividing structure is acts as a diaphragm and is called so.a number of structures acts so.in body ,THORACIC DIAPHRAGM; a tissue of muscle separating thoracic and abdomen.it also plays important role in respiration.UROGENITAL DIAPHRAGM;a layer of pelvis separating deep perineal sac from upper pelvis.PELVIC DIAPHRAGM;a pelvic muscle consisting of levator ani and coccygeus.even iris and eardrum acts as a diaphragm.even it is used in birth control.;inserted in vagina and fitted over cervix and is held in place by vaginal muscles, this diaphragm holds spermicide in place over cervix.it kills sperms and prevent fertilization.thus the diaphragm acts as a dividing structure in various parts and divides body in various parts.
Abdominopelvic cavity lies below the diaphragm and can be subdivided into the abdominal cavity and the pelvic cavity.

The kidneys are bean-shaped organs that are found in the abdominal cavity. The peritoneum lies to the front of the abdominal cavity.
The diaphragm - a muscular sheet which lies below the lungs in the chest cavity.
