In the 1828 presidential election there was a total of 261 electoral votes thereby requiring a majority of 131 votes to win the presidential election. Andrew Jackson received 178 electoral votes and John Quincy Adams received 83 electoral votes. John Quincy Adams received his 83 electoral votes from Connecticut 8, Delaware 3, Main 8, Maryland 6 Massachusetts 15, New Hampshire 8 New Jersey 8, New York 16, Rhode Island 4 and Vermont 7.
