The group one metals or alkalis metals are found in group 1 of the Periodic Table are very reactive metals. These metals have only one electron in their outer shell. Therefore, they are ready to lose that one electron in ionic bonding with other elements. As with all metals, the alkali metals are shiny and easy to cut and are good conductors of heat and electricity. The alkali metals are softer than most other metals. Caesium and francium are the most reactive elements in this group.

Technically - all of the elements in group 1 are metals. Group 1 is Alkali Metals -- even Hydrogen is in there; since it can become (in theory) a metal at extreme pressure.

The rest of the group 1 is: Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium, Caesium, and Francium. All are typically stored in mineral oil in normal environmental conditions.

Lithium (Li, 3) would be my 'choice' to pick one - since it would be the 'first' real metal under normal conditions - it is also the lightest metal and the least dense solid element.
