The distal convoluted tubule is the portion of the nephron that empties into the collecting ducts. It is the last segment of the nephron.
The filtrate from Bowman's capsule first travels to the proximal tubule of the nephron.
Distal Convoluted Tubule
Within the nephron (the functional unit of the kidneys), filtration occurs in the glomerolus. The filtered fluid is called filtrate. Reabsorption of filtrate occurs in a few places within the nephron, however, the majority of reabsorption takes place in the proximal convoluted tube. It is important to mention that additional reabsorption occurs in the Loop of Henle, distal convoluted tube, and the collecting ducts as well. Again, however, MOST reabsorption of filtrate from the glomerolus takes place in the proximal convoluted tube of the nephron.
proximal convoluted tubule
The glucose that enters the nephron along with the filtrate get absorbed by the glomerulus goes to the proximal convoluted tubule (pct) and again reabsorbed and enters the blood.
Blood is filtered out of the glomerulus, a "knot" of porous capillaries, into the glomerular capsule. From there the filtrate passes though the proximal convoluted tubule, the loop of Henle, and the distal convoluted tubule where the substrate concentration of the filtrate is fine tuned. The distal convoluted tubule empties into a collecting duct but that is generally not considered part of the nephron itself.
The Bowman's Capsule is part of a Nephron, which would be found in the Kidney. It's function is to collect the filtrate from the Glomerulus, passing it on to the Proximal Convoluted Tubules (PCT's); subsequently, to the rest of the Nephron.
You just broke my brain cells
ADH makes the collecting duct & distal convoluted tubule of the nephron more permeable to water
ADH makes the collecting duct & distal convoluted tubule of the nephron more permeable to water
It is a steroid. It is an antidiuretic hormone increases the permeability of the distal convoluted tubule and collecting duct of the kidney nephron resulting in less water in the urine. The urine becomes more concentrated as water is conserved.
