The exact date as to when toy soldiers were first made is not known for sure. However, it is known that they were first mass produced in the middle of the 1700's.
It was thought to be the time that would be easiest to recognize during the short period that TV commercials showed an advertised watch face. I believe Timex set this "standard" back in the 1960's.
Color TV was introduced in the 1950's.
