'Ouija' is the name of a 'spirit board or Talking board'. 'Ouija' is a registered trademark of 'Hasbro' formerly 'Parker Brothers'. The name presumably comes from the French and German for 'Yes Yes', 'Oui' 'Ja'.Talking boards are used by participants, placing their fingers on an easily movable planchette or pointer. Questions are asked verbally and the pointer moves to letters, numbers and words, marked on the board to spell out the answer.
The pointer probably moves due to the ideomotor effect. Where involuntary muscle tone can act in unison, to move the pointer. Some may argue that the muscle movement comes from our own subconscious and therefore the answers are also from our own subconscious thoughts. Others may say that the muscles are moved by spirits and the answers come from the spirit world of those departed.
You may be surprised by the answers that your own subconscious thoughts can come up with. Also for all participants to subconsciously all move the pointer the same way, is also very surprising.
If you believe that the spirits move your arms, then you may be surprised by the answers given and also question, who are these spirits? and do they speak with authority, or with their own ideas?
The dangers are with interpretation and actions taken, from the messages received. It can be very misleading, rather than a 'lie'. It would be open to interpretation.
If you believe in the spiritual answer, then how can you be sure you are not being misled by a mischievous spirit? Your own subconscious may also confuse you.
So, as yet, there is no definitive answer to 'Is it a lie?'.
It happens, it's intriguing and needs further investigation.
It should not be used as a 'TOY'.
