99% of car windows are on a track and are simply glued to it. there is a motor that lets it go up and down. if you had ice frozen to the window for instance when you tryed to let it down the motor was pulling at the track and the glue separated there was probably a loud pop. once the window was free to go down it is no longer sitting in the track when you try to roll it up the track is actually trying to go beside the glass back to its orignal position. you will probably notice that if you let the window down with the button and then pull the glass up to where it should be to be closed that you should temporarily be able to push the button up and the track will hold the glass back in place until you can take it to have the interior panel removed to be able to re-secure the glass to the track.
Replacing a driver side window in a 1995 Toyota Tercel requires removing the window trim from the door so the old glass can slide out. When inserting the new glass be sure to carefully lower it on to the window track so it will not crack.
A window is held in the door track of a car in two ways. First, on the bottom of the glass inside the door panel there is a grooved channel with attachments fitted to them. The glass is secured in the bottom this way, and is attached to the raising and lowering mechanism. Second, the glass fits into a groove above the door panel, assuring it slides in place.
