The goddess Nut (hieroglyphs: nwt) has many different myths associated with her role. She is essentially a sky goddess, the word nwt referring to the dome of the sky upon which the stars appear. In one version of her story she gave birth to five children on the five extra calendrical days: Wsir, Hr, StX, Ast and Nbtht - these are known today in their Greek forms as Osiris, Horus, Seth, Isis and Nephthys. In another story, Nwt swallows the heavenly bodies (Sun, Moon and stars) and gives birth to them all every 24 hours, so she is the mother of many hundreds of children.
Osiris was the son of Nut the goddess of the sky and Geb the god of earth.
