That November, the ship landed on the shores of Cape Cod, in present-day Massachusetts. A scouting party was sent out, and in late December the group landed at Plymouth Harbor, where they would form the first permanent settlement of Europeans in New England.

The Pilgrims who landed in Plymouth were affected by the Pact. It outlined the "rules of behavior" they all agreed upon.
Your teachers probably told you when you were little that the Pilgrims live at Plymouth, but you see this is not true. Those people at Plymouth with top hats are actually called Puritans.
A group of self-governing people is often referred to as a "community" or "autonomous community." In a broader political context, such a group may be called a "sovereign state" or "nation." These terms highlight the ability of the group to make decisions and govern itself independently.
A colony over which an individual or group had been granted full governing rights was called a proprietary colony. The monarch that gets to appoint the governor of the royal colony.
