The car changed the way people lived, did business, and thought. Before the car most cities had a city center or downtown and houses were built on the outer edges of these areas because people could walk or take the trolley to shop or go to work. This is why in some cities today you can still see older homes from downtown. With the car people could move away from downtown and this started urbanization. The car changed travel because for the first time they didn't need to depend on a rail schedule to go someplace. It opened the door to building roads and the creation of motels for people to stay. They could now see things they had read about. Shopping became easier because more things could be bought and carried home. Shops began to move away from the downtown to where people were living. Eventually this would turn into shopping centers and malls. The world we live in today is a result of the invention of the car.
