The battle of Stalingrad was important for both the Nazis and Soviets. For the Nazis, it was a flanking point to get to the caucuses oil field which would of given the Nazis fuel to prolong their campaign. Stalingrad was important to the soviets as it was named after Joseph Stalingrad, so a moral importance was for the USSR.

The real importance of Stalingrad was that it was a significant turning point in WWII and that they stopped the advancement of the German troops. The real beauty of it was that it was all a trap to keep the Germans from getting oil from the Caucasus region, just south of Stalingrad. What actually got the Germans to fall for this was that the city was named after Joseph Stalin, who Hitler despised.

Hope this helps! ^J^
