The Ragnarok... It's an epic end of the world event which culminates in a great battle in which many of the gods such as Odin, Thor, and Loki die, the world becomes submersed in water and there are only two humans who survive.

After these events, the water recedes, the earth is reborn and the surviving gods make peace. The 2 remaining humans repopulate the earth and a new civilization arises.
