La Befana
Her name is La Befana but she actually comes on January 5, the Eve of the Epiphany (which celebrate the 12th day of Christmas when the Wise Men came).
Venifica. Which means witch in italian. It can also be La Befana... She is an old lady (not a witch) that followed the bright star as did the three kings but never finds baby Jesus. Therefore, she will give gifts to all boys and girls-- always searching for the special child. Tommy DePaolo wrote a lovely kids book about her. She comes on the eve of the Epifany (Little Christmas) January 6.
La Befana, and she's a witch so I doubt it's for Christmas.
That would be "Lady in Italy"
