The mass of a horse is measured in pounds (lb) or kilograms (kg).

Mass is almost always measured in (kilo)grams.

You already know the weight of the horse to be 1080 pounds as measured by a weighing machine in air so its mass is very close to 1080 pounds and just a tiny bit over that. You could correct the measured weight for the bouyancy of the horse in air to be more accurate, or weigh the horse in a vacuum but that would be fatal to the horse.

The mass is measured with an adequate balance.
