The occipital cortex is also known as the striate (striped) or visual cortex. It is involved in low level processing such as detecting edges, colors, orientation, and motion. It is found at the back of the brain and has projections to other regions in the brain, particularly the parietal and temporal cortices.
During mRNA processing, non-coding regions of the transcript are spliced out. These regions are called introns. Coding regions are called exons.
Memory is encoded in the limbic system of the brain, primarily in the hippocampus, although associated structures are involved, as well - including the amygdala and the cingulate gyrus. There are also association cortex areas of the brain which are involved in memory, including frontal lobe regions.
The expression of genetic regions
The brain consists of three main regions: Cerebrum, Cerebellum and the Medulla Oblongata (Brain Stem). The Cerebrum is the largest part of the brain that controls thought, memory and the senses. The Cerebellum is involved in the coordination of voluntary motor movement, balance and equilibrium and muscle tone. And the Medulla Oblongata controls autonomic functions, and relays nerve signals between the brain and spinal cord.
