Yes once the body has had a chance to heal and toughen the piercing that tissue will soften up, it's what we call a guarding reaction.

Hard tongue after new piercing?
ok, if its hard around the Piercing that's normal, its a callus forming, but if your whole tongue is hard, then I'm not for sure why that is, only thing i can think of is the swelling.

Not really but you should keep the talking down to a minimum, it irritates the piercing.

Soup and porridge, mostly, until it heals. Stay away from anything with yeast, and avoid hard, tough things that require a lot of chewing. Sticky things are nasty too. You won't want to move your tongue, but recall that you use it to move food around your mouth. Ice cream is wonderful. Eat lots of that. Slushies are useful as well.

Can you eat candy after tongue piercing?
The candy itself isn't gonna harm the piercing. Its just that they can be hard/chewy and you could accidentally bite down on the jewelry while eating the candy. Soft candy can even get stuck around the bar and just cause problems. You might have a problem with sucking on candy if our tongue is swollen too. Just be super careful with it :)

Well generally with the post piercing swelling, it's hard to tell what is considered normal. In a standard center line tongue piercing, placed approx 3/4" back from the tip of the tongue normal even swelling is to be expected. In the center line piercing you are only piercing connective tissue that joins the right and left sides of the tongue. So the possibility of nerve damage is fairly low (note I am not saying "no risk", there is always a risk when piercing the tongue, but I am talking about a professionally performed piercing) If you have any other form of tongue piercing then the risk becomes even higher, so numbness and possible permanent damage is a real ever present risk.
