In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on Earth, created from Earth itself. Zeus odered Hephaestus to construct her out of the Earth as a punishment to Prometheus. Prometheus had been given the task of creating man and had stolen fire from heaven. Therefore Zeus ordered the creation of Pandora and endowed her with beauty and cunning and sent her to be married to Prometheus' younger brother, Epimetheus. Zeus had given her a wedding gift, and when she arrived at Epimetheus' house, she opened the pithos (jar), releasing evil spirits that would plague mankind forever.

In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman. She was married to Epimetheus, and they were given a box by Zeus and told not to open it. Pandora was curious and while her husband was, she opened the box. By doing this, she let out all that is evil. However, the last thing that remained at the bottom of the box and also was unleashed was hope.
