Freeview is the digital terrestrial television service for the UK. It is replacing analog services which will be switched off by 2012. To receive Freeview, either a television with a digital receiver is needed (most telvisions sold from 2008 have a digital tuner) or a separate Freeview receiver is needed. Most Freeview receivers have video and audio outputs which connect to AV inputs on the television. If a television has no AV inputs at all, then a Freeview receiver that outputs the decoded signal on the RF connector will be needed. Not all digital receivers have this function so it is important to check before buying. Before buying, ask the question "Does this receiver output its decoded signal as an analog RF signal?" It is not unknown for a salesman to say yes even if they don't know the answer. Remember that if you have asked the question and explained that it is vital to have the facility, you are entitled to a full refund if it turns out not to be the case. Better still, ask to study the manual before parting with cash.

Have a digital aerial with freeview tv but getting break up of picture and souund ss141jw?

Simply, the signal is still not strong enough. Check you cable connections and make sure the cable is intact and suitable for use. Check the plugs do not have stray braid, shorting them out. If all is perfect, then you just live in a weak signal area. Get a bigger aerial or put it higher up.

Can your full HDTV receive freeviewhd?

Freeview is the free terrestrial digital television service in the UK. 2010 is the year that it will introduce HD broadcasts. Most UK televisions sold since 2008 have a freeview tuner built in but it is only televisions sold from 2010 onwards that are likely to have an HD freeview tuner built in. The manual for the television will tell you whether it has an HD tuner. If it doesn't, it is still possible to get HD broadcasts on Freeview by purchasing an HD set top box.

Do people use aerial in Ireland?

If you are referring to the switch off of broadcasting of television stations on analog in October 2012, then televisions in Ireland no longer are able to get channels on an aerial, as everything is now on digital. People now have to get their stations over a cable. Radios can still get broadcasts by aerial. If you are referring to Ariel, the washing powder, then yes it is used in Ireland. If you are referring to the switch off of broadcasting of television stations on analog in October 2012, then televisions in Ireland no longer are able to get channels on an aerial, as everything is now on digital. If you only intend to watch terrestial and freeview but not sky or virgin which type tv would it be best to buy HD ready or full HD?

The difference between HD ready and full HD is fairly subtle. To display standard definition signals, there will be little difference between any model of HD television but the difference is described here... Normal HD resolution uses 1080 lines to build the complete picture. Most HD signals are broadcast in that format (the alternative is 720 line but it rarely used). A full HD television should have a native screen resolution of 1080 lines and will be advertised as 1080i or 1080p native resolution. By contrast, other HD ready televisions may not use 1080 lines for the display and the incoming signal will be processed and resized to fit the lower resolution. Typical line counts are 768 or 900. The end result is still good quality but the effective resolution is reduced to the number of lines on the display. Freeview (The British digital terrestrial television service) is currently broadcasting in standard definition only. Therefore, with a line count of 576, the native display resolution will be higher on any HD ready or full HD television. The resolution of the image is NOT increased by displaying it on a higher resolution screen. However, Freeview is planning to begin HD broadcasting during 2010. Current Freeview receivers will not be compatible and will need to eb replaced with HD compliant receivers. Likewise, British televisions do not currently have HD Freeview receivers built in. No doubt they will incorporate HD Freeview during 2010. If the television is to be used for HD Freeview in the future it may be worth looking at 1080 line displays as they are potentially the best image quality. Before buying any television, it is worth looking at them first. Regardless of the specification, some look better than others. As we tend to spend many hours looking at our purchase, it is only sensible to make sure it is the picture that we like best.

How do you hook up playstation 3 with av cables and still play online?

The PS3 must be connected to a TV of some kind. The PS3 internet connection has nothing to do with the A/V connection and is either WiFi or Ethernet cable

Is the TV show Criss Angel Mindfreak still on TV?

Chris Angel is on A&E and they are about to start filming Mindfreak for Season 5 in May. However according to TV Guide and the A&E schedules there are no listings for the next 14 days for this show at all. So I guess they are not airing reruns anymore? --March 2009

How good is cable tv service?

Cable TV service, especially digital cable TV, is as good as satellite TV. The only difference is, cable TV is still there when a storm occurs and won't have to keep searching for a connection like satellite TV is known to do.

What is a freeview tuner?

Freeview is the British digital terrestrial broadcasting platform and was originally introduced by On Digital in the early 90s. On Digital ceased trading after only a few years and the service was then supported by BBC and others with a change of name to Freeview at the same time. On Digital was a subscription service but the change of operator brought free digital viewing using standard analog aerials. A Freeview tuner is the digital tuner to receive the broadcasts. It started as a set top box but most televisions on sale in the UK now have integrated digital tuners, removing the need for stand alone tuners. Set top receivers are still commonly available to support analog televisions without digital receivers. Prices are as low as £15 ($23)for a tuner, rising to £100 or so ($150) for more advanced models with built in recorders. At the time of this answer (2009), analog television is still widely available throughout the UK but the analog transmitter switch off has begun. By 2012, all analog television broadcast will cease and every viewer will need either a digital television or a set top box to receive terrestrial broadcasts. Freeview is only broadcasting in standard definition. Alternatives to terrestrial television are cable services, currently offered by Virgin Media throughout many cities in the UK and by BSkyB, the satellite service that covers the whole of the British Isles. Both are subscription services. Recently introduced is a further satellite service called Freesat. As its name implies, this provides free reception and the viewer needs to purchase and install a satellite dish and a receiver to benefit from it. Both satellite services and the cable service offer a mix of standard definition and high definition broadcasts.

Will the casio 980 b tv still work after the switch to digital tv signal?

No, but that doesn't mean you have to toss it. Kipkay has an excellent video on YouTube detailing how to get a converter box to run portably, but it is still far bulkier than you may want it to be. Still, if you're willing to lug that thing around, go for it. It's not that heavy. Plus, if you're going to throw it out, at least give it to me...

Could your ps3 work without a HDTV?

Yes the cable for the A/V connection that comes with a PS3 is for a standard TV. In order for your HDTV to get an HD connection from your PS3 you must purchase an optional A/V cable (HDMI or PS3 Component). The HDTV will still be able to provide you will a standard 480i picture using the A/V cables that come with the PS3 for your connection
