A meander is a few simple curves in a river. If there are many or they are complex, then a scroll plain is a name for the finished product, with its many oxbow lakes.
The Taieri Scroll Plain in Otago, New Zealand is a marvellous example. Pictures are available in wikipedia.org.
In connection with the US Army Engineers having shortened the course of the Mississippi River by removing many of the meanders and oxbow bends; Mark Twain remarked that a believer in extrapolation would be able to extrapolate the length of the river to the Silurian, when it hung out over the Gulf of Mexico like a fishing rod!
The specific name for a loop in a river is a 'meander'. The end of the river, near the mouth (where it meets the sea) is called the delta, and the river can appear to form many loops around a series of islands - this is called a 'braided channel'. A meander loop of river that has become cut off from the main river (by errosion and deposition forming a stagnant pool is called an 'oxbow lake' or (in Australia) a billabong.

bender
the bend of a river I believe
As far as I recall from my geography this is an 'Oxbow' bend, so-called because of the shape of the animals horns. Whether or not there is a term for the resulting cliff caused by the underctting action of the water I don't know.
A horseshoe bend is a curve in a river that is shaped like the letter "U".

A river's current slow down and tend to meander across a flat valley floor. The river's current is faster on the outside of the bend, and slower on the inside.
A meander in a river is a bend or curve that forms when the river flows in a zigzag pattern. Meanders occur as water erodes the outer bank of a bend and deposits sediment on the inner bank, causing the river to gradually change its course over time. They are a common feature in rivers with low energy and gentle slopes.

"Curve" and "bend" are sometimes used to mean similar things, yet both words have slightly different applications. "Curve" usually describes a smooth, even arching of a line. It often refers to something intentional (usually "bend" is used to describe something which was done accidentally such as in "I bent the hood of my car"). "Curve" is usually not used as a verb, whereas "bend" usually is. Example: "He bent the iron bar". Curve is used more often as a noun. Curve and bend can be used to describe similar things under limited contexts such as "There was a bend (or curve) in the road".
