I don't know about them being referred to as "the circle", but the three disciples of the twelve that Jesus took with him to certain places, like the Mountain of Transfiguration, Garden of Gethsemane, etc. were Simon Peter, James, and John. (Matthew 17)
12 disciples of Jesus Christ
The Disciples of Christ are Christian, from the Protestant branch of Christianity. Jewish people generally do not believe that "Christ" has come yet, and those people who do believe he came are called Christians (followers of Jesus Christ). So, the Disciples of Christ would be gentiles, since they are not Jews. It is worth noting that "Disciples of Christ" is the name of a particular church, not a general term for those who follow Christ.
A disciple of Christ is a student of or learner of Christ ,particularly a follower of Jesus's teachings. Christian was a word used toward the disciples of Christ with contempt. Disciples of Christ are chosen vessels. Christians are the called ones. Many are called but FEW are chosen.
The 12 disciples of Jesus Christ were:Simon (who was also called Peter)his brother AndrewJames son of Zebedee, his brother JohnPhilipBartholomew (also called Nathaniel)Thomas (called Dydimus - 'the twin')Matthew (also called Levi)James son of AlphaeusThaddaeus (sometimes called Jude or Judas)Simon the ZealotJudas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus. There are no photos available of the disciples!! Photography was not invented until the late 1800s, around 1750 years after the disciples were alive, although icons contain their images or symbolic photographs.
As in all dispensations, followers of Christ are called His disciples.
The term 'disciples' means 'imitator' that is followers of Jesus Christ attempting to do things His way. The 'inner group' of disciples that were given to Jesus by His Father are called the 12 Apostles.
Zero. They had other names for him, such as "Teacher" and Peter called him "The Christ" but they never called him "Jesus".
