The three Gorges Project Dam in China is the largest hydro project ever made. The expected completion date is in about four more years. It was began in 1994, based on a concept developed by a famous Chinese engineer in 1919.
The project will have great economic benefits, which are offset by about the relocation of over 1,500,000 people who have or will be displaced by the rising waters; loss of numerous valuable archaeological and cultural sites; and significant adverse effects upon animal life.
