It is true that Italy secretly left the Triple Alliance and joined the Triple Entente shortly before World War I. The Triple Entente was an alliance among France, Britain and Russia after the signing of the Anglo-Russian Entente of 1907.
The three countries in the Triple Alliance were Germany, then Austria-Hungary and Italy, this alliance lasted from 1882 till the beginning of World War I.Great Britain (A+ Anywhere)

In the period before World War I, there were two alliances : the Triple Entente of Great Britain, France and Russia, and the Triple Alliance (Central powers) of Austria-Hungary, Germany and Italy.
The original alliance of England, France, and Russia, which existed before WW I and before the US joined the alliance, was called the Triple Entente, which is derived from the French word meaning understanding. These three nations, in other words, had an understanding among each other that they would mutually resist any aggression from the central powers. I have not heard of any other name that applied to the central powers prior to WW I.
the central powers were known before the war as the triple alliance and before the war the allies were known as the triple entente
Italy was first part of the triple alliance (Germanys side) but late change to the triple entente (Britains side) just before the end of the war
Before WWI Germany made the triple-alliance with Italy and Austria-Hungary. Bulgaria and the Ottoman empire joined the alliance, against the Entente with UK, France and Russia. Other countries joined the Entente too. When Italy swapped sides in 1915, the remainder of the German war alliance was called the central powers. In WWII the term "the allies" was used about those fighting with the UK against the Axis powers (Germany, Italy and Japan, with their collaborators).
The Triple Entente (Russia, France, and later on Britain) and the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria - Hungary, and Italy although Italy switches alliances later in the war to the Triple Entente)
No. In WWI the Central Powers were the other side (Germany, Austria Hungary, Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria), originally the "triple alliance" where Italy belonged before changing sides to the Entente. The US joined the Entente. originally that was France, Britain (with commonwealth countries) and Russia. Serbia, Japan, Brazil, Romania and many others joined the Entente at different stages, and USA was amongst the latest to enter, shortly before Russia left the war.
The Triple Entente (from French entente, "agreement") was the name given to the loose alignment of Great Britain, France, and Russia after the signing of the Anglo- Russian Entente in 1907.
well ... Germany, Austro-Hungary and Italy were all alliances, known as the 'central powers' their main rivals were the Triple Entente made up of Britain, France and Russia. This was the way the alliance system was just before WW1, i think at some point during the war Italy backed out due to a disagreement, and left the central powers.
