The first puritans came on the Mayflower in 1620, records show that only about 300 were there between 1620-1629. Their significant Immigration began in 1630 and ended by 1641 with about 21,000 total immigrants.

Due to religious persecution in France. The Huguenots were Protestants, and France was a Roman Catholic country. In the eyes of the Church and the State in France the Huguenots were heretics and therefore not protected by law.

King Louis XIV had threatened to kill anyone who didn't believe what he believed, the Huguenots took off! They were the first French people to emigrate too.
