- The orbicularis oculi is a muscle in the face that closes the eyelids. It arises from the nasal part of the frontal bone, from the frontal process of the maxilla in front of the lacrimal groove, and from the anterior surface and borders of a short fibrous band, the medial palpebral ligament.
- The occipitofrontalis or epicranius is a muscle which covers parts of the skull. It consists of two parts or bellies: The occipital belly, near the occipital bone, and the frontal belly, near the frontal bone. Assisted by the occipital belly, the frontal belly draws the scalp back which raises the eyebrows and wrinkles the forehead
- The Procerus is a small pyramidal slip of muscle deep to the superior orbital nerve, artery and vein.It helps to pull that part of the skin between the eyebrows downwards, which assists in flaring the nostrils.It can also contribute to an expression of anger.It is supplied by the buccal branch of CN VII and can produce transverse wrinkles.
