I have received this question at my school and I got it right.
Think of it this way: 30 dollars were paid, 1 dollar was given back to each of the men, and the bellboy kept 2.
25+1+1+1+2=30
But when you think of it this way: Since each person paid 10 dollars and got 1 dollar back, they each paid 9 dollars. The bellboy has 2 dollars.
9*3=27+2=29 (where's the last dollar)
Here's the tricky part.
They paid 25 dollars together, not 30.
25/3=8.33 (They each paid 8.33)
25+2=27+3=30 (There you go, you got 30 dollars all together, they DID not each pay 9 dollars, they each paid 8.33 dollars.)
The 2 dollars is the bellboy's tip silly :P
