The color of the land depends on place and season. Let's say you have an English countryside in the spring, so the land would be green and lush looking. If you have fields in your project they would be in brown shades with green around them. Since I don't know the medium you are using or how large I can only give you a general answer. If it were me I think I would make the surrounding area of my town in the English countryside. That scene would contrast nicely with the grime of the streets.
