This depends on what you want to go with your turkey. Most turkeys are stuffed with some sort of dressing. Vegetables can be added as with a roast; however, turkeys are usually large enough that they fill the entire pan. There is usually not room for much else in the pan with the turkey.
Depends on the size of the bird... a 12-14 pound turkey should be about 4 hours in a 325 degrees F oven...breast side up. "Tent" the turkey with heavy duty tinfoil for 1st 3 hours of cooking time & remove for last hour. It is best to rub some softened butter between the skin & the turkey breast & then rub the entire bird with more of the softened butter - sprinkle liberally with salt & pepper (this helps the skin to be crisp & flavorful.) Best way to tell when it's done is when you insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh & it reaches a temperature of 185 degrees F. Let it rest out of oven for about 15-20 minutes before carving. Eat & then nap!!!!
Yes , the water is absorbed into the meat as it cooks and makes the meat more suculent , you can also use stock juices , such as chicken stock , or turkey stock to give the turkey more flavor
When cooking a turkey in a roasting pan, you should movve the oven rack to the lowest level possible in the oven.
