To strike a Faustian bargain is to make a pact, usually with negative consequences, in exchange for wealth, power, or knowledge. It is inspired by the German legend of Faust, who sells his soul to the devil in return for worldly gains.

A Faustian bargain is a pact where someone trades their soul or values for power, knowledge, or material gains. It's inspired by the character Faust from German folklore who made a deal with the devil for worldly pleasures at the cost of his soul. It's often used in literature and culture to explore themes of greed, temptation, and morality.
A Faustian Choice is, in fact, no choice at all. For example, if I am at the top of a cliff and being pursued by spear-wielding natives, do I jump off one side of the cliff or the other? The fall is still the same, as is the result if I do not jump. Wrong! The above definition refers to Hobson's Choice. A Faustian Choice is based on Goethe's novel where Faust sells his soul to the devil for knowledge and power. The "choice" is the metaphorical bargain of giving up one's immortal soul for a mortal life of power and knowledge.
