Because he was the one who founded the Chinese Communist Party. He finally won victory against the Nationalists after more than 20 years of civil war. Prior to that he led his communists in battle against the Japanese invaders in WW 2.

The Japanese won many battles during the Pacific War, though as the tide turned against them these became fewer and farther between. Their last major naval victory was against the United States at Vella Lavella on October 6/7 1943, and their last land victory was Operation Ichi-Go (against China), which ended one day before the turn of 1945.
It can easily be argued that the First Battle of the Marne was the single-most important event of World War I for one simple reason: had the Allied forces not achieved a victory against their German opponents in this September 1914 battle, the war would have likely ended in a quick German victory. Success here did not guarantee ultimate victory for the Triple Alliance, nor did it preclude a drawn-out conflict. It did, however, ensure that there would be no easy victory for the Central Powers, which fact proved to be a decisive advantage for the Alliance.
