Best Answer

Too much baking soda accidentally added to a recipe will result in a "soapy" or "chemically" tasting dish. If possible it is best to begin again, since it's not really possible to cover up the taste.

What can you use instead baking soda?

Using Baking Powder Instead of Baking Soda* You need to use 2-3 times more baking powder than baking soda. The extra ingredients in the baking powder will have an effect on the taste of whatever you are making, but this isn't necessarily bad. * Ideally, triple the amount of baking soda to equal the amount of baking powder. So, if the recipe called for 1 tsp baking soda, you would use 3 tsp baking powder. * What I do is compromise... I use twice the amount of baking powder as baking soda (add 2 tsp of baking powder if the recipe calls for 1 tdp baking soda), plus I omit the salt (which adds flavor but also affects rising in some recipes).

Is baking soda bad for children?

No, it's not, unless you eat too much of it.

What do you use for baking soda?

Not sure what the question is asking.Baking soda cannot replace baking powder. Baking powder will raise a batter by itself; baking soda requires additional ingredients with which to react and raise the batter. For a homemade recipe for baking powder, see here: http://frugalliving.about.com/od/condimentsandspices/r/Baking_Powder.htmAn additional note: baking powder will go bad over time, so if your recipes are turning out flat instead of fluffy, try getting some new baking powder.

Does baking soda work to clean teeth?

You put a little bit of baking soda in a small dish. Wet your toothbrush, and dip it into the baking soda. Then just brush normally for about 1 to 1 and a half minutes. I brush my teeth with baking soda. It doesn't taste very nice, but I just plug my nose! (It tastes kind of bitter and salty...)

Is it bad to health if too much baking soda had been eaten?

Well, your stomach is going to explode when the hydrochloric acid meets the baking soda and makes bread. Obviously. Kaboom! But also delicious. Add flavor by quickly ingesting raisins, bananas, or kiwis.

What is the usage of bakery soda?

Baking soda is alkaline, and when mixed with acidic ingredients, it reacts and releases bubbles of carbon dioxide. These bubbles, when trapped inside batter, help baked goods rise. Other uses: * Baking soda is used in devil's food cake because it turns the cocoa powder reddish brown. * Vegetables cooked in water mixed with baking soda don't lose as much color, though the baking soda makes them mushier and causes them to lose vitamin C. * Sprinkling baking soda on a grease or electrical fire will help extinguish it. * Placing an opened box in the refrigerator or freezer will absorb bad odors * Baking soda is a good, mildly abrasive scouring powder.

What has happened during the baking process when your cookies are flat and crumbly when they come out of the oven?

The answer depends on the sort of cookie you tried to bake. The first thing to do is to read over the recipe to see whether you forgot to add something, or whether one of your ingredients had gone bad - sour milk, for example. "Flat" suggests that something went amiss with the baking powder or baking soda, whether too much or too little was used. If the recipe calls for baking soda, there should also have been an acid, whether sour milk, vinegar, or lemon juice. Without these acidic additions, the baking soda would not make the cookies rise. "Crumbly" suggests a binding problem, which might mean that an egg was left out or that the dough was too dry, without enough liquid or perhaps without enough butter or shortening.
