Some people freeze it, but I find frozen basil doesn't get used much because it tends to be something you always use fresh.

You could make pesto of various types, and freeze that; there are other recipes containing significant amounts of basil which you could also make for the freezer.

Or, you could simply give away what you can't use. Basil isn't cheap to buy in the grocery store, and many people would be glad of a bag of freshly-cut basil. You could ring your local church or other charity organization and ask them if they could use some for stalls at fairs, or to give to those who need it, and so on. It's quite possible they'll send someone to pick your extra basil if it isn't easy for you to deliver it.

To enhance the flavor of a dish when cooking with basil, it is best to cut the basil into thin strips using a sharp knife. This helps release the oils and flavor of the basil leaves. Avoid chopping the basil too finely, as this can cause the leaves to bruise and lose their flavor. Add the cut basil towards the end of cooking to preserve its fresh taste.
